It was definitely an adventurous day. We started our journey around 1pm this afternoon because John had to work for half the day. Our first stop was in Atlanta GA. We ate at The Varsity. It is a old car hop place that sells hotdogs and hamburgers with homemade fries. Their slogan when you walk up is "what do ya have?" Very yummy place. After we had filled our bellies we headed to Alabama. We were stuck in Atlanta traffic for hours then finally reached Montgomery AL. Nothing interesting their. There were a lot of birds (we almost hit one) and I saw my first hooker! You could definitely tell. She was dressed in a tight jean skirt and had on clear high heels.
We made it to Mobile AL. We were a bit upset because we wouldn't be able to eat at a famous restuarant their because we didn't get in till late. But we had forgotten about the time change. We gain an extra hour!! So we ate dinner at Wintzell's Oyster House. Its been there sine 1938. Its not hard to tell its been there since then with how trashy it was in the bathrooms. I went in to go to the bathroom and there were only two toilets. One had pee in it and the other had poop. I picked the pee one and it wouldn't flush. So I went to the poop one and it wouldn't flush. Went pack to the pee one and jiggled the handle and it decide to flush. Closed the door and a roach runs across the floor. Anyone who knows me, knows I hate roaches. Well, I kept my eye on him so as not to be startled and sat on the toilet. It wobbled, of course. Washed my hands and headed back out to sit with John. Told him my bathroom adventure and then we began to enjoy our meal. Our appetizer was called Kill-A-Shrimp. It was really good. It was deep fried calabash shrimp with ranch. Then we order our main course. John had the sampler: crab claws, oysters bienville, flounder, and shrimp. I had Shrimp and Cheesy Grits with a side of sweet potato casserole. The meal tasted fine, except for some crunchy sand. After almost finishing my drink, I glanced into it. Wouldn't you believe there was a big roach swimming in my glass. Yep, a roach. I told the waittress and she freaked. She kept apoligizing. She had the manager come over and apoligized. He said we didn't have to pay for our meal (for sure!) and he gave us his card for $25 off our next meal (like we would come back). Problem for me is that I had drank most of my drink. Well we were both very disappointed. We left to head to our hotel, and wouldn't you know the adventure didn't stop with the resturant? The hotel had over booked and we didn't have a room. Sorry, we don't have one. I am sitting in the car and John is on the phone trying to work with the people at Hotels.com to get us a room for the night. Apparently Mobile is completely booked. I'll attach pictures and let you guys know how the night went.
Pictures are attached!! These are the pictures from the first part of the trip (atlanta).
